ReplyDeleteWell, there was a hint of romance going on between Hikari and Futaba an first, but that somehow got squashed as soon as Ai and Makoto arrived.
Well, if they added a hint of romance, then we'd be focusing on the romance and not on the girls OR diving, so I'll take this happily. Especially with Ninomiya Ai on scene.

ReplyDeleteGirl's figures probably have something to do with readership figures. When Comic Blade circulation goes down, publisher orders all their mangaka to draw in mega "Dolly Parton" style. After all sex sells.

Le Grand Bleu did both at the same time.
Sticks: given that Aria and Amanchu focused on the girls/crew and not romance, I fear this would not do well with romance. Even the things with Al and Akatsuku were more played with as an aside rather than being a big part of the series.

A romance between Hikari and Futaba, however slight, would actually put quite the focus on the girls, don't you think? Of course, Amano is not a true yuri-mangaka, but Hikari and Futaba's interactions in the first volume made me wonder at times.
Motormind: I didn't see their flirting as something conscious on Hikari's level - she's just so bubbly and outgoing, and latched onto Dotty to draw her out of her shell. Now Dotty's been drawn out, the flirting (or what Dotty saw as flirting) has receded for the moment, especially now Dotty's been integrated into a small circle of friends.

ReplyDeleteBelated thanks for another great chapter. Amano constantly surprises me - this chapter is an example of how much characterization can be given to a stick-figure. Amazing.
