Wow. I got a bit worried there, but Amano confirms my opinion that she's one of the best mangakas of the moment. She really outdid herself with this chapter.
Finally they're heading for the sea! Thanks for translating this.
I was hoping Amano would play a bit with sealife. I'm looking forward for beautifully detailed reefs and flamboyant fishes on a low-dialogue spread. Still, ropes and bubbles were nice. She was focusing on other divers and deko's training, so it was quite fine.
I hope Amanchu makes enough success to warrant a full-through adaptation like Aria, though I have no info on how it's faring in nipponland. We're still some time away from getting enough material, however.
... It's clearly Mag Garden's public company address which can be found anywhere, why would we need to delete it?
Meanwhile to the poster, I'm not too sure if they take fan mail but I guess it can't hurt to try, the postal format looks correct based on this http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2224.html
Motormind, there is a notice at the very end of the latest Amanchu chapter, which says the next installment will arrive late, in the October 2010 issue of Comic Blade, because Ms. Amano is not feeling well.
I didn't find any news in media, but left a question in the talk page of japanese Wikipedia's ARIA article, maybe someone will answer.
I thought Amano was in a relationship with a woman. Of course this would not technically prevent her from being pregnant, but I feel that the step from "not feeling well" to "expecting a baby" is a bit of a stretch. Unless it is a Japanese way of saying it.
This is something I have asked a while ago, but got no answer. Now I found out by chance: Akari put a rather visible handwritten sticker on her laptop and it says something like "Be careful not to drop".
Is there a HQ or MQ version of the manga special navigation, where Ai-chan arrives to embed at Aria Company? I have only seen a low-res version with a weird brownish hue, which looks like mobile phone quality.
I would guess it's not her cover, per se? Ms. Amano been ill this summer, so its probably an assistant who provided the cover art.
However, I must mention the out-of-context zeppelin attracted my attention more than those weird tits. I mean Amanchu is about scuba, not parachuting or at least amphibious frogmen are a special military occupancy.
Anyhow, if all goes is right and Google Translation is correct, Amano-sensei is supposed to appear at the booth 334-west during the Comiket 78 Fair, alongside some 30 other MAG Garden mangaka (13-15 Aug 2010). See here.
I hope somebody from here is currently in Japan and has a chance to attend the fair. I wonder if there will still be Aria cosplayers two years after the saga ended? (Amanchu cosplayers probably would look a bit weird, running around a dry place in full scuba gear...)
I wish I could go to ComiKet, but I already spent my travel budget when I visited Japan this spring. If anyone goes to ComiKet: please take some pictures of Amano!
By the way: will Totan Kobako be there as well? If that's the case, I will sit in a corner and weep. I went to Shime to see the coal mine winding tower from Sketchbook.
However, being machine translation, I am not totally sure all 30 manga artists will be there in person or maybe they simply contributed drawings to the "bootleg special" booklet, which is sold only at MAG's Comiket booth.
Furthermore, it is said indoor photography is strictly prohibited at Comiket. Only the cosplay people can be targeted with a camera, in the designated outdoor scene. Japanese people are said to be much bothered by having their picture taken in public.
It appears "arianization" of the venetian gondola business has started! Just found this news article, which makes me wonder if they should hire Ms. Amano for an advisor?
"Gondoliers in etiquette school
Decalogue of Conduct from the "Priest" says: keep smiling and be nice to tourists
by Lorenzo Mayer, Gazzettino Veneto, 2010/08/13
Speak at least a hundred words, in all languages, to give a better welcome to foreign tourists. Do not shout or have coarse attitude, present to guests always smiling and helpful. Thus comes the commandments of etiquette for venetian gondoliers.
The "pope of gondola" will do some real training to have a better relationship with the public. A bit and is already training staff in large companies or schools. The one to launch the idea of a ruleset of conduct, was the new president of the Gondola Guild, Nicola Falconi, who quickly found a great tune with Aldo Reato, the former (?) number one . The association collects more than 600 members, including licensed gondoliers and their substitutes.
The proposal was launched in conjunction with the course, which, says Emanuele Medoro, director of institution, will start immediately after the summer break and will have be free for participants. The goal - said Falconi - is to help those who make service "front office" and are in continuous relation with the public, to have better contacts with their customers or with the tourists.
Indeed, this can only have benefits for the quality of service and for visitors in Venice, who sit in a gondola. The gondolier is the image of the city, symbol of Venice in the world. Their image with these courses shall be more beautiful and nice.
It will be a suggestion, not an obligation, but we have already found widespread availability and convergence with the president of the gondoliers who sits in the queue of Ente Gondola.
Tune confirmed by the words of Reato: "We are pleased with this new launching of the course. We want to move forward in this direction with enthusiasm and willingness in the interests of all."
After meeting with Admiral Stephen Vignana from the Harbour Authority, other proposals were also analyzed. President Falconi has confirmed many offers made verbally by sponsors who can approach the world of rowing, with initiatives in support of the gondoliers.
Moreover, among the objectives, also to work closely with manufacturers of gondolas in the squeri [those are traditional venetian boatyard]. For this we are studying the possibility of depositing a technical specification, an official protocol on implementation of the gondola, a kind of "documentation" for one of the most beloved symbols of Venice."

The second lady gondolier in Venice, Alessandra Taddei has successfully passed her gondolier exam. She will now become a substitute gondolier, but cannot take full time rowing job until an old gondolier retires.
The catch is, she is a born venetian, with gondolier father and husband, so the playing field was skewed in her advance. Her exam cosisted of taking the supervisors on a gondola tour in the Canal Grande. It's not nearly as wide as depicted in ARIA, but still 35-70 meters across, so not a great difficulty to navigate, if the larger vessels give you way.
In contrast the first venetian lady gondolier, Alexandra Hai from Germany, has been faulted in her exams 3 or 4 times. Allegedly her exam route consisted of narrow canals which are unpassable at certain tide levels and not too suprisingly the exam was scheduled for such an occasion.
Eventually Ms. Hai tricked the mysogenic gondola association, exploiting a 300 year old statue to become an unlicensed "house gondolier" for three hotels and she is still rowing in the city.
Anyhow, the recent dubbed ARIA run at RAI4 TV and RAI Gulp seems to have made a difference. Radio says already FIVE new ladies applied for the gondolier school which starts this autumn. I'd guess all their names start with the letter A...
In a few years' time Venice will need to build a wind turbine farm to be able to inaugurate them.
The October issue announcement for Comic Blade Monthly is supposed to appear on Mag Garden Co.'s website on Aug 30 or 31. If it has Amanchu content, you will probably notice that from the cover page image.

Thank you so much for you're work once again. This was the perfect follow up to the previous chapter.
ReplyDeleteI really hope this series continues to be scanlated one way or another. Thanx again! <3
Yaaay! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping Amano would play a bit with sealife. I'm looking forward for beautifully detailed reefs and flamboyant fishes on a low-dialogue spread.

ReplyDeleteWhoa! reading this really make me want to try diving!!
ReplyDeleteOh it is?
ReplyDeletei thought its not a public so i was trying to keep her privacy whether its not correct.
however, we can send mail for amano that address?
Seriously, people. I can't find any news anywhere that Amano is sick. What is she suffering from then?
ReplyDeleteMotormind, there is a notice at the very end of the latest Amanchu chapter, which says the next installment will arrive late, in the October 2010 issue of Comic Blade, because Ms. Amano is not feeling well.
ReplyDeleteI didn't find any news in media, but left a question in the talk page of japanese Wikipedia's ARIA article, maybe someone will answer.

I thought Amano was in a relationship with a woman. Of course this would not technically prevent her from being pregnant, but I feel that the step from "not feeling well" to "expecting a baby" is a bit of a stretch. Unless it is a Japanese way of saying it.
ReplyDeleteI guess Keep Waiting is best answer in this case. i hope amano san has good time whether she is sick or not. take time!
ReplyDeleteA scary possibility would be if Amano-san suffered a scuba diving accident. A bend or deco patient can take months to fully recover.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous// No way!!
ReplyDeleteThis is something I have asked a while ago, but got no answer. Now I found out by chance: Akari put a rather visible handwritten sticker on her laptop and it says something like "Be careful not to drop".
ReplyDeleteHave you seen raws of Comic Blade Magazine 2010/8 (the July issue) already? Is there really no Amanchu or ARIA content in it?
ReplyDeleteI sent a get-well card with of my some Venice photos, let's hope Mag Garden does forward it.
