  1. I don't want to ever stitch two spreads in a single chapter ever again.
    If it happens again, I'm afraid I'm just going to leave the white divider line like all the other lazy scanlators. ;_;

  2. In response to ch11 notes, I don't think you can americanize every manga(except Black Lagoon), especially manga like amanchu. SO, I actually love all these so-called "weaboo-crap". Good move there~~ XD

  3. Didn't know where to put this but found a typo on page 7a it says "Shall we decide what to do from ow on?" forgot the n on now, again sorry if this wasn't supposed to go here. Thanks for the chapter though! Much appreciated.

  6. Those doodles are so cool. Thank you for sharing.

  7. Ah, so those two are twins. I thought so. And the girl is called Ai. Well, well, that's some... coincidence there. Her name has the character for "love" though, whereas the other Ai's name was written in katakana, I think.

Thanks a lot for your job ! ;D

  9. >> WHY CAN'T REAL GIRLS DRESS LIKE KOBATO?

    This.

Also, one reason why Americanisation is bad - Honourifics tells you LOTS. With one name call, you can pretty much determine the relationships between characters.

  10. Why is the boy called Makoto? Isn't that a female name?

(There was a Kino Makoto in Sailor Moon, an acient anime directed by the same guy who did Aria. It's protagonists had miniskirts shorter than Alice's.)

  11. Makoto is a unisex name. And I'm pretty sure no one who is watching anime or reading manga who doesn't know what Sailormoon is.

  12. Makoto, depending on the kanji, is unisex.

In this case, it was шка, which is usually used with boys.

Like common sense has ever stopped THE INTERNET.

    Anyhow, awesome work as always.

As for the chapter, I'm amazed Amano didn't jam in cameos in that doodle, would've been a perfect oppertunity.

  14. > didn't jam in cameos in

Not sure about that. Did anyone try to look at the entie chapter upside down or left or right tilted to see if there is an encoded gondola hidden somewhere?

However, on page 66, lower right corner, you can see Mr. Makoto being crushed by a giant octopus. I think Miss Fist of the North Star made that drawing, nice twins they are...

  15. The only valid question is the Kobato one.

    Thanks for the release.

  16. I don't understand the Kobato thing. Do you refer to victorian lolita fashion? Scuba gear was not yet invented in the 1890s!

    On the other hand

On the other hand, this is how a late XIX century lady looked like in a gondola (painting by Ettore Tito)

  18. Supposedly Amanchu takes place in Atami town. If you wish for more than "romantic two girl friendship" please note that city has the largest sex museum in Japan.

The high-tension electric power pylons leading to Venice probably gave Ms. Amano the idea for the Ukijima cable car system.

  20. Have you seen something like this in Arietta?

Yes, Arietta has a lot of shots like those. I's scenery porn from start to finish.

  22. Just want to express appreciation for the QC'ers again. From my point of view, QC-ing sucks. I just QC'ed a group project for my masters. Not good. Keep up the good work - I hope to do some more TL'ing when I'm free.

Just spotted a bug in Aria The Origination ep. 01 (about 2min 00sec into the episode). When Alicia and Akari are giving farewell to their customers, the bride wears mini-miniskirts (even though the city is covered in snow and the undines are in their winter uniforms). Maybe that girl was a robot?

  25. Now this is something weird:

  26. @Tamas Feher
I don't really see any "bride", but the girl is wearing zettai ryouiki, which is not too cold on a sunny day as depicted.

And the story about the Roddarmadam is interesting. I especially liked the fact they used coarse language. Now that would have been something!

On a side-note: does anybody know why cutting and pasting doesn't work on here? Even using arrow keys seems to be disabled.

Type something, push the preview button and then you can continue editing with cut&paste functionality enabled.

  29. Hello Motormind: there are only a few sources about roddarmadame on the net, but they all seem to confirm the foul-mouthed problem.

They learned to row because their husbands were too drunk to man the boats to the church on Sundays and then the ladies realized oar skills can earn them an independent living.

With a background like this, it's no wonder they cursed like a soldier and were heavy drinkers themselves. (Coincidentally this tells us Alicia Florence's character is not exactly down-to-Earth...)

This is how roddarmadame looked like in the early 1700s:

.. and she was one of the last ones, circa 1890:

This is a fresh situation update on real-world lady gondoliers from a local blogger in Venice:

The last photo could be from Arietta if it was made at night.

  33. Today it was Aria the Origination Ep. 1. on RAI Gulp TV. The italian voice actors are a bit loud for my taste.

Episodes can be watched online in hi-res, although the bitrate is a bit low and you need to have the stupid Microsoft Silverlight module installed:

    http://www.viewtv.co.uk/RaiGulp

Timeslots are in CET (1 or 2 hours before GMT):
    nov29 06.15 and 23.30
    nov30 06.10 and 23.25
    dec1/2/3 06.15 and 23.25

By the way, today midnight, right before Aria a fake anime called Huntik Seeker aired on RAI Gulp, with monsters chasing martial alchemists across Venice! The contrast with Aria felt really strong and stupid.
