  2. Ow, c'mon Alicia. Kiss the girl already!

He he, I can always dream, can I :)

    Thanks for the release.

  3. Must be a real pain looking for the right words for it. Anyway another great release. Thank you!

  4. Aa... beautiful...
And Alicia actually really-really cute :)

  5. I'm really happy with how this chapter came out, comparing the final result with my original script is almost embarassing.
However I'm sure that there's no chapter harder than this one, so from now on it's a gentle downslope towards the finish line.

I wonder why spring is usually the first mentioned season when people name all 4 of them in order. "Shunkashuutou", the chapter title, translates literally to "Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter".

  6. Loved this chapter. Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Well, Spring is usually used to symbolize beginnings because it's the first season of a new year, so that's why it usually comes first.

    That's just my guess

  8. Beautiful chapter.

    "Poetic style"

    :P

    ReplyDelete
  9. It's definitely poetic, especially with the sentence structure used here, and the way y'all made sure to put quotation marks around each season, so as to ensure that the reader understood that Akari was free-associating everything even as she strung together her thoughts into something that would make the reader imagine the images that the mangaka put onto the page.

Very nice. So very cute, that Alicia.

  10. Stagione, its probably more accurate to say that Spring relates to the beginning of life, as new things grow then. Since the first season of a new year isn't neccesarily spring, look at the ppl who live down in the southern hemisphere, our first season is summer/autumn.

*sigh* the ending of aria is near, as it is evident in the last few words Alicia said.

But that doesn't make Aria any less enjoyable. This one is a sweet chapter ^_^
    Many thanks ^_^

  11. Sticks must have got sick of me saying "poetic style" each time I made him re-edit his TS when the script got adjusted ;_;

  12. Oh, and I'd love to see how tokyopop handles this chapter (if they ever get up to it...), I recall they did a pretty good job with the riddles of the treasure hunt chapter.
Anyone from places where this chapter has been "officially" translated can comment on how it was handled?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I only have Chinese copies. Which was TL'd a little different to the Japanese one. The Japan was more figurative while the Chinese one took some effort to make it a bit more literal (and thus a little longer).

Spring is usually considered the beginning and such~

It was probably annoying for the TL *cough*, editors AND the TSer. XD

  14. thank you very much

  15. Not to mention that a New Year actually started on April 1st in the ancient Japan. So yeah, beginning and all.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yeah, now I recall that the northern winter is more related to the end of the christian year than with the beginning of the next.

I'm also interested in seeing the text for the official translation. we sometimes see fan translations that surpass the official ones in quality, but just the greater support and structure the official team has should allow them to do a very good job. I think they might even be able to get input from the author himself when needed to clarify some more complex passage (like pretty much this entire chapter).

    ReplyDelete
  17. thanks..
"Anyone from places where this chapter has been "officially" translated can comment on how it was handled?"

well it has been officialy publish.. but the thing is, i forget the publishing date... and when i'm about to buy it, the bookstore is already out of stock :( (they got vol 11 instead which mean i missed a month or two) i'm kind of in the bookstore's waiting list for it at the moment... i already got all aqua (1,2) and aria (1-9,11,12)

Are you sure? I haven't seen any photos of Kozue Amano or heard of anybody, who has seen her in real life. The author may be a lady, a man, a talking cat or a little green alien from Mars 8-)

Many manga artists are paranoidly reclusive. Kozue Amano was born in 1974 according to Wikipedia and she already buried her beloved cats due to old age before Aria ended. This suggests she has been living secluded since before finishing university, probably. That's weird.

    ReplyDelete
  19. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It is mentioned in several sources that Amano is a "very good personal friend" of Chiwa Saito. Not much is mentioned about their relationship, but since it gets mentioned so often I guess it's rather important to her.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah, Amano isn't a secluded hikikomori... from interviews and author comments she does a lot of travelling - and she worked very closely with the staff during the ARIA anime, so yes people have seen her.

    ReplyDelete
  22. http://drawerofdreams.net/neo-venezia/chronicles/amano.html
you can find some information about Kozue Amano here, but her official's website has been closed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. In general, japanese people do not like their photo being taken. Many otaku who travel to japanese events show respect and Photoshop-obscure the crowd faces before posting them on the web.

Anyhow, I would be curious to know why Ms. Amano tries to avoid any public appearance? It's not like she would be trampled by an instant mob of crazy fans every second corner and I don't think she could be ugly and trying to hide her face.

Another possibility is that Aria is actually more of a teamwork then we think and Ms. Amano does not want to be the namesake idoru and avoids taking solo credit for a collective effort (if we like conspiracy theories).

    ReplyDelete
  24. > drawerofdreams.net
    > you can find some information about Kozue Amano here

That's nothing for information. Did she attend a school or college, did she work somewhere before devoting her time to manga? Such solid info is not easy to construct for illusion and can be background-checked.

For example the Naoko Takeuchi worked as a chemical engineer before starting to draw and there are photos of her driving a cabrio F355 after the success of Sailor Moon.

Maybe a bit curious today, but just finished reading an article on Wired.com about people choosing new identities in order to disappear and how they are located/captured.

    ReplyDelete
  25. >That's nothing for information.
well, sorry if i m so bad at searching
but i tried to find her profile til my eyes turn red and all i found was japanese stuffs which are 'translated' by google

    ReplyDelete
  26. Japan has a "potrait law" meaning if your face is used on someone's photo without your permission, you can sue them.

Also, some people usually keep to themselves because yhey don't want crazy stalkers (Japan has A LOT), or they just like privacy, as they're Japanese.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Amano has the lifestyle I want: making stuff a lot of people love, yet nobody knows who you are! I write stories and novels and when I ever do get published, it will under a pen name.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Maybe that 'is' her pen name? :O

And we can all expect an official english tranalation by Tokyopop to be finished by 2301.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If ever... I'm waiting for vol 5. since may :(

  30. how come http://ariapokoten.sakura.ne.jp/ is closed?? i used to download many aria related pic from there.... where am i gonna get them now

    ReplyDelete
  31. How much booze does Alicia need to pass out on Akari's table?

By the way, Akari is weird. She says the room becomes a "mysterious alternate world" in the summer, so she rather goes out. Then she gets a sunstroke on the street and cats take her to a mysterious alternate world and do weird things to her...

The gothic loli Aria-sachou is definitely embarrassing.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Aria s1e11 ED shows Aria-sachou eating in front of the sunshade of Ristorante Carpaccio. The place does exist in real life and is located at Riva degli (Neo)Schiavoni, 4088-4089 or by map here.

This makes it more likely that Aria Company is located on the Schiavoni waterfront, but even further to the east, as the s01e11 Akari bridge scene shows.

    ReplyDelete
  33. There is now a lenghty japanese text on the http://ariapokoten.sakura.ne.jp/ website. It probably explains the closure?

The archive.org website "wayback machine" feature gives some access to the old ariapokoten website contents.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Something about the "attractiveness of old domains"

So I think the newer domain (prob the sakura.ne.jp suffix) got removed or something.

    Reading properly is :effort:

    ReplyDelete
  35. i just wonder if Amano Kozue sensei ever visited this website and wrote sth
    well, just wonder though :-?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I wish... ;_;

I doubt she'd be too impressed with people pirating her work for free.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Especially when there's an official English Release (Albeit really really slow)

    lol.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I probably didn't help Sticks at all when I confirmed to Mez that the stuff was indeed in...

    "Poetic Style".

    :D

    ReplyDelete
  39. @mez: it s just my hyppothesis though
since after someone (including me) mentioned the author's website has been closed, the text on this website changed (if google translation was right and my memory serves me, last time it was about credit :-?)

  40. Amanchu makes it to the Comic Blade magazine cover again. Ooki is cute!

What is "Amanchu! the Bootleg"? (top picture)

That Amanchu T-shirt looks really weird...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sorry wrong URL, here is the mysterious bootleg.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think it's a poster

    ReplyDelete
  44. It's the cover for a Comic Blade picture booklet that was sold at C76 or something.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I got the C74 Comic Blade bootleg book when I was at the show last year. It's a collection of omakes and one-off mangas by various artists who publish regularly in Comic Blade. The C74 issue had Akari-chan on the front cover and Ai-chan on the back but there was no actual manga by Amano-san inside.

  46. Yeah, I remember those, the Ai-chan pic was quite controversial at the time.

  47. In about 15 minutes (17:10 CET) italian state TV RAI Uno will start airing almost 2 hours of live coverage of the yearly venetian speed-rowing races: pupparin - two person boat for teenage boys, mascarete - two person ladies, caorlina - six person men and finally gondolino for two person male crews.

(Single-oar boats are not used in regata, due to their slow speed).

RAI Uno is usually available on satellite or cable TV in most of Europe. You may be able to watch it on the web by installing Silverlight (a kind of Flash replacement from Microsoft):

    http://www.rai.tv/dl/RaiTV/diretta.html?cid=ContentSet-37f0f5d4-af33-48df-9281-2d46214c1b5d

    ReplyDelete
  48. During the final gondolino race, one of the boats, the blue one managed to capsize into the lagoon and the two muscular, handsome heros had to be rescued from the water to great shame. This will probably become a few days of talk fodder for the venetian public.

The TV coverage had some two minutes about Alessandra, the second first lady gondolier in Venice. She was big news of the summer, although she is obviously unrelated to Alicia-san or Albert Einstein...

Some of the water police were riding quite big, futuristic looking jetskis, which could have come straight from Aria's 24th century tech.

  49. Amanchu! 10 summary is now up on the "Product of wasted time" weblog, it's a comedy chapter.

  50. Amanchu! 10 japanese raw MQ package:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2R0PW91M

    Sorrowfully the pages are grey-tinted.

    ReplyDelete
  51. thanks, we can start the TL from those, but we'll be probably waiting on HQ raws to release.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hmm...the logic of this is confusing.

The people Pikari instructed in the previous chapter are actually their schoolmates, one of them being a senior. The senior (violent girl) at the end decides Pikari needs to be re-taught diving principles to stop unpredictable behaviour...

But since Pikari acted as a guide on a dive with them before - isn't that supposed to imply Pikari actually has more diving experience and is more competent?

*sound of blown fuses in brain*

    ReplyDelete
  53. Guess what? On a gondolier weblog there is a new entry about the fall's season change: some operators are wrapping up until spring and pull boats ashore, some work under autumn rain and even a little snow, while the more fortunate ones in lower latitudes can continue all year around with just a little change in the leaf's colors.

Meanwhile those in the souther hemisphere are just starting the season full steam (late spring-summer).
