We have no choice, but to congratulate the swiftness of the translator! It was like two days ago when the status was changed to started on this page and the chapter is already out.
>Usually I put something silly on the ACS credit page but I just can't think of anything this time.
Maybe you could include short notice about Ms. Amano being OK, in case some of the Amanchu! scanlation readership do not visit this blog:
"Kozue and her baby are fine! こずこずも赤ちゃんも無事です。 安心してくださいね。" (Sayaka Ohara's blog, 2011 march 14).
I must wonder about the future of Amanchu? With a few dozens of tera-becquarels of radioactivity already in the sea, as a result of the Fukushima nuclear event, likely nobody will do recreational scuba diving in Japan or at least on her Pacific coast, in the coming years.
Therefore Ms. Amano would have no new material for the core Amanchu theme, unless she relocates within Japan or even moves abroad, to a diving paradise. That's not easy with a baby on-board.
Maybe she could return to Venice, perfect place for all children (no cars) and pick up ARIA the Next Generation? That would require a pile of money, of course.
I think scuba-diving off the coast of Izu will be as safe as ever. Iodine-131 dilutes pretty quickly and has a half-life of only 8 days. Izu is not exactly around the corner, see.
As for this chapter .. well, just like in Aria, Amano seems to like to draw cute girl butts!
Hello Yasuchika, the Amanchu! manga has been on quarterly publishing schedule since the spring of 2010, when Ms. Amano's pregnancy was announced. You can't really expect the scanlators work faster then the mangaka?
(Although the Mensile Undine mags or the tanpenshu could be worked, indeed!)
Motormind: iodine is so last month, now its about chlorine, caesium and strontium isotopes and plutonium from the MOX-fueled reactor. Tuna fish business is already destroyed. Beijing is calling Tokyo every day for honest water dump data.
Interestingly, Akari-chan remarked in ARIA, the Neverland island episode, that it was no longer possible to swim in the seas on Manhome and one can't even play in the sand on the beach. So maybe the contamination will last until 2301AD and beyond...
these are 2 page that u guys missed in chap 6, could u plz translate them for me http://cB2.upanh.com/21.778.28737631.i160/1149.jpg http://cB8.upanh.com/21.778.28737637.BE70/1150.jpg
Here is something funny. Pope Benedict XVI will visit Venice this May 7-8th and he will have a short ride in a gondola across the St. Mark's basin.
The rowing association of course had an endless and quite un-civilized debate about whose gilded gondola to use and which eminent crew of two should row (but the champions just hate each other and don't talk to each other).
Eventually someone wanted to ask for the lady gondoliers, because currently there are only two of them in Venice, Alexa and Giorgia, so there is no need for a selection debate.
Immediately, all the 455 or so male gondoliers agreed to use a non-private naval school parade boat and hold a straw draw if necessary, to determine the rowers, all that in order to avoid the shame of girls transporting the Pope... Typically italian.
Pope Benedict XVI (ex cardinal Ratzinger) is in Venice today, with the visit almost fully broadcast live on Vatican's web TV.
He was transported across the St. Mark basin in a largish, pure white gondola, with red seats and gold plated front and rear hull, almost as gilded as the wedding gondola Akira and Aika rode in the Aria the Natural postal delivery episode.
The papal gold boat had four man rowing: two pairs of famous gondola speed racers. They were chosen because they just hate each other, hoping that transporting the pontiff will magically reconcile them. Like the organizers read too much ARIA or whatever...
Hello, have you seen the price tag of Kozue Amano's memorabilia offered for the earthquake charity auction? Currently at 251.000 yen for a single new sheet of Amanchu art, which is a lot, I guess.
Early on someone came along and pumped up the Amanchu sheet bid from 35ky straight to 150ky on Yahoo, while the otherwise cute Stein's Gate item stayed at 15,500 yen, for example. If I were Ms. Amano I would be scared of having such fanatic fans!
Well, guess what. I went to Ito again and walked to that junior high school near the station. Alas, it doesn't look anything like the school in the manga. I also walked through Ito, but didn't really recognize much either. I did get some nice pictures though of the Nagisa Shinsui Park Moon Terrace in Atami though, which is depicted in some of Amano's artwork.
It's just a recommendation by Amano Kozue. It's on a strip of paper that comes with every book in Japan (afaik) and is usually an ad of some sort or a summary of the insides. All it says is
"The World I love... Welcome to Tana Kanoka-sensei's 'Wonderful World'!"
@Motormind Did you mean the manga cover itself? Cause the drawing of the town and the girl is on the manga cover. The recommendation is just that small white strip of paper.
Anybody seen this from April 2008? Starts like a dystopian prequel for ARIA, then maybe a time paradox. The author definitely knows how to draw. Click the images to proceed to the next page:
Do you mean the manga chapters which came with the guide books? They have already been previously translated by someone and can be found in the mediafire link on this page(in the main ARIA folder). If you mean something else, please let me know.
It looks good, however I think the text outside of the bubbles is a little difficult to read? Would you like me to replace no-jays versions on the mediafire with yours?
Hmm, that's right. Here, I've increased the text size by 2 for the outside bubble text. http://www.mediafire.com/?j7jaelcrj69be1h
And, if you think this is good enough, then please go ahead and host on the mediafire, by all means XD. You can even post it if you want, so that more people will know =p. That said, I'll be doing Natural and Origination, too. They should be done within 2 weeks or so.

Although I'm a bit confused, because ARIA volume 12. published on 10 March 2008 and Shingo dated his fanfic as "2008.4" (April?)
On a lighter side, that gloomy Akari fanfic explains a few things:
- Why Akari's mental abilities are diminished a bit? Because of the knock she got against her head! That's why she says "Hahi" so often, as she can't fully comprehend things around her.
- Why Akari has so many cat encounters? From the gloomy story it appears she is the Neo in Neo-Venezia, so she must have a daily recurring cat encounter to keep the Matrix running or whatever.
- BTW, at the beginning of the fanfic, what is Akari's wardrobe? Is it some uniform borrowed from another manga or anime series?
@Anonymous If you want to make one, why not? But if you don't want to, then I won't force you =).
@Tamás Possibilities: -The author has yet to get his hands on the last volumes by April 2008 lol -The author got the idea way before vol 12 came out but somehow finished the doujinshi late. -The author just loves gloomy yet heartwarming stuff, so, he made up one.
And... Akari's mental abilities diminished a bit? Nah, I'd say her mental abilities were greatly boosted in a certain way, like a certain psychic from a certain giant robot show. Why? She's able to comprehend all kinds of things that most people can't, you see? =p
Well, actually, from what I understand, Akari of Aria is living in another universe/dimension that's different from the Gloomy Akari. And then, the two of them somehow managed to connect with each other after the almost fatal accident. Also, I'm under the impression that the Manhome of Aria's Akari is like an utopia where everything is so super efficient that people absolutely CAN'T get lost in Manhome. Here, in the comment section, at the bottom, someone named Ian S. has a rather negative, but reasonably explained opinion about ARIA and its fanbase / target audience. His statements drive home sometimes.
I agree with most of what Ian S. said. I came for cute girls doing cute things but stayed for the coming of age theme (Also Venice.) It's really easy to relate to the characters and they do make me go d'awww.
I completely disagree with Ian S., if only for the fact that it baffles me how he can condemn the audience of a series purely because he doesn't like certain esthetic choices within it. I believe Amano is sincere in her message and in how she portrays it. She draws pretty girls because she clearly enjoys doing so, not because she follows some "formula". Sure, Amano took a quite a few pointers from Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, but there's no shame in that.
Anybody seen "Ikoku Meiro no Croisee", which is a new anime directed by ARIA's Junichi Sato?
Last year's Tamayura, fully created by Sato, was an attempt at "ARIA without Amano" and that didn't really work in my opinion, it felt like hollow somehow.
Yet, the Croisee anime is adapted from a manga, so maybe that would work, unless one really hates the french and Paris.
I saw Croisee today, and I thought it was very well done. I love the scenery porn, which is pretty much Junichi Sato's hallmark. And is Yune cuteness personified, or what?
As for Tamayura: I love that show to pieces. When I went to Japan last May I even visited Takehara to see some of the locations from the anime. Takehara also seems to be very proud of Tamayura; I saw posters all over the town, and even on some ferry-boats.
To me Tamayura feels more like Sketchbook or Kamichu! than ARIA. It's rather cutesy tone may indeed not be to everybody's liking though. I, for one, am excited about the TV series that is announced for the fall season.
A bit of ARIA trivia: allegedly the character of prima Akira E. Ferrari is based on a real person, the male comedian Yasuo Saito (also known as Yakkun Sakurazuka).
He often appeared cross-dressed in TV shows, impersonating "Sukeban Kyoko", a deliquent schoolgirl who carries a large kendo bamboo sword to beat up people. This may explain some of ARIA's jokes about Akira's feminimity.

ReplyDelete> anyone know when this series become monthly again?
ReplyDeleteProbably not any soon, maybe 2 years? Amano's baby was born in late 2010.
The new Amanchu graphic, which Ms. Amano made for the earthquake charity auction, eventually sold for 502.000 yen.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I think May 26 is Kozue Amano's birthay. Maybe ACS is preparing some kind of present for us?
I'm afraid not, there isn't anything to prepare unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteSomebody won something for the birthday, but I don't know japanese. Here is the link to Alice:

Hello All, what about picking up Mensile Undine?
ReplyDelete@natural-log
ReplyDeleteDo you want me to make a credit page or can I skip that?
Hello, I think a credit page should be there, after all it was a lot of work. It should also explain this particular piece of fan-fiction was probably written BEFORE Ms. Amano finished the ARIA manga run.
ReplyDeleteTherefore Akari's blogging activity and the identity of her nominal penpal (Caith Sith) potentially were not yet known to the fan author? Without considering this info one might wonder why anybody choose to concoct such a counter-canon story?
Although I'm a bit confused, because ARIA volume 12. published on 10 March 2008 and Shingo dated his fanfic as "2008.4" (April?)

@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIf you want to make one, why not? But if you don't want to, then I won't force you =).
@Tamás
Possibilities:
-The author has yet to get his hands on the last volumes by April 2008 lol
-The author got the idea way before vol 12 came out but somehow finished the doujinshi late.
ReplyDeleteSo Akira is based off a comedian's character? I wouldn't exactly call that a "real person", actually.
