  8. So, there it is.

What strikes me that Alicia actually promotes Akari herself. I'd expect an external authority to handle that, actually. But then of course it wouldn't have been so emotional.

  9. Thanks so much for having posted all the Aria. I'm also sad it's ending, but it's such a great series. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I guess I wish there was a bit more closure, but maybe that'll be in the navigation.

From the Origination Traghetto episode I'd conclude that only the topmost undines, the three Water Fairies are privileged to promote their own pupils.

(The other people were there only as spectators even in the case of Athena promoting Alice-chan. Aika's promotion was not shown in the series.)

In contrast, the traghetto trio were tutored by "normal" primas or maybe they didn't even had an assigned teacher, explaining why they couldn't progress better? Anyhow, each one of them was examined by a dedicated company inspector, who promptly faulted them.

what a moving chapter. i feel so sad for Akari. Alicia was also alone until she hired Akari as an trainee, right? now Akari also takes on the burden of being alone until she hires someone. and will she also pass on the burden of being alone to her kouhai? it all seems so tragic.

thanks for this chapter... ah i also don't want to let go, can't believe it's all coming to an end!

also, one typo in this chapter:
    ch59 p99 p3 b2: Akasuki-san --> Akatsuki-san

  15. I also find it very strange that Alicia puts Akari through all that. Why doesn't she simply stay longer and have them run the company together, until Akari can manage on her own? It all looks like an elaborate plan to cause Akari as much sadness as possible.

I am also miffed that Alicia doesn't even introduce her fiance to Akari; isn't her pupil even worth that? Of course, it would have been even sweeter still if Alicia had actually asked Akari to marry her ;)

This is probably related to the Sith-ish nature of Aria Company? Sadness, isolation, anger and desire are powerful feelings, which make a Sith stronger then any Jedi.

When a Darth Undine has absorbed enough of those feelings, she takes on a single pupil, whom she will abandon at the earliert possible time to perpetuate the Sith tradition.

    > I am also miffed that Alicia doesn't even introduce her fiance to Akari

Sudden marriage out of nothing is a well-established manga tradition. Otherwise I think Alicia married Akatsuki's big brother, the foreign trader.

There is no credibly suitable candidate if we wish to avoid the weird or unnatural, which are so contrary to Aria's spirit. At least he could import lotsa exotic foreign booze for Alicia!

    change, challenge
the longer alicia stays, the harder she finds it to say good-bye

    >I am also miffed that Alicia doesn't even introduce her fiance to Akari; isn't her pupil even worth that? Of course, it would have been even sweeter still if Alicia had actually asked Akari to marry her ;)

cause 99.99% fans of alicia is going to kill him
and the 0.01% is the groom himself

  20. She didn't introduce her fiancee and later husband later, but don't forget that in the manga there was no retirement ceremony eather. It was only the anime and done brilliantly.

And about waiting for Akari to be able to manage on her own... that's exactly what Alicia has done. Akari was ready to be a prima for a long time, and even after her promotion, she waited until she learned everything she has to. So Akari is ready. But to leave or to see leave someone we love is always painful. Even if she still lives in the same city :)

Are we actually reading the chapter or just looking at the pretty pictures here?

It was five years before I met my gf's father. Life can sometimes be pretty complex, Motormind.

  24. > in the manga there was no retirement ceremony eather. It was only the anime and done brilliantly.

I think many aspects of ARIA anime work better then the manga. The inclusion of Ai-chan was an especially brilliant idea, although it could have been done better. Many hate her, but without Ai 123456789, the entire Akari experience or journey would be meaningless.

BTW, does anybody know what is 123456789? Anybody in Japan willing to go to the studio and ask the girl's family name?

  25. what do you mean by 123456789?

  26. In the anime we discover that Alicia has somebody in her heart only at the end, while in the manga we can understand something reading Navigation 52 - Marriage of the sea. Alicia received a ring from somebody.... now we know he was her boyfriend.

Personally I like the manga better, because Akari's "unknown/mysterious" e-mail-friends ending is... yeah... amazing in some ways.

and what I regret the most is, the anime never animate Marriage of Sea. I even hope that sometime in the future that chapter will be animated as Aria the Movie or OVA.

  28. Deep in my heart I still hope Alicia found herself a nice wife. Hey, it could be, depending on Aqua's laws on marriage.
